“Smuggler’s Ransom” - (No Comments)

There on the screen was a character who might have appeared before me in 1969. Young, ernest, modestly dressed, the only difference being she was not proselytizing in the good old USA. No, Carmen, played by Marina Resa was smuggling bibles into Ceaucescu’s Romania. She is caught, but so what. Unless you want to make a movie about martyrdom, there is not much else to say except she would be imprisoned and forgotten. Ah but there is a fly in the ointment. Her father, a Soviet trained nuclear physicist is a defector from Cuba. The Eastern Bloc sees a bit of leverage here. They have offered father for daughter.
